Win a home energy makeover! With cold weather predicted until the end of the month are you wondering how you can afford to keep your home warm? Energy costs seem to rise just as temperatures plummet and for many of us, already feeling the financial pinch, warm homes seem impossible especially if you live in a house that is ‘hard to treat’.

One local charity may be able to help. If you live in a ‘hard to treat’ home in the South West Birmingham area you could be one of 200 houses to have energy efficiency work done to your home under a pilot project for no upfront cost.

Northfield Ecocentre is delivering a new scheme working with houses that are not easy to make energy efficient. If your house has solid walls, an old boiler, wooden uninsulated floors, is leaking energy, and your money, you could benefit.

Luke Olly, Project Manager explained: “Birmingham has lots of old houses that are not easy to make energy efficient. Lots of the programmes over recent years have focused on cavity wall and loft insulation which leaves people with solid walls paying high bills and suffering from cold homes.”

Volunteers 2011

This week we held an event to celebrate the important contribution that our volunteers have made to the ecocentre in 2011.

Without our volunteers many project and events would simply not have been possible - such as planting trees as part of our Northfield's Orchards projects, running our gardening and sewing groups, research work for our energy advice service, marketing our services, writing fact-sheets, running public events and outreach stalls, establishing the Friends of Victoria Common group and of course the work of our volunteer Management Committee... and so much more.

Thank you and congratulations on all your hard work. Your skills, enthusiasm and commitment are amazing!

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at Northfield Ecocentre in 2012 give us a call on 0121 448 0119 or visit our jobs page.
